The Winter King is a British historical fiction television series based on Bernard Cornwell’s trilogy of novels The Warlord Chronicles. Starring Iain De Caestecker as Arthur Pendragon, the series acts as a retelling of the Arthurian legends. It takes place in Post-Roman Dark Age Britain, where the exiled warlord Arthur Pendragon returns to a kingdom in chaos. Saxons invade, and a child-king sits unprotected on the throne.

It was fun constructing this scene with Lipsync post in Cinema 4D (Redshift) using the styleframe as a reference point and to build out frames that would be composited in After Effects.

The objective was to replicate the inner walls of a rock with ancient markings carved onto it, which would also form the title, with the introduction of a flickering torch, casting a warm glow onto the surface, adding a touch of ambiance. The carving would later be illuminated with bright, shiny lights.

The final sequence closely resembled an actual location used in the production.
